Favorites: New England Edition

Usually, we compile a little list of jams we're loving on with very little binding them together; no theme, no rankings, some new, some old. But this week, your humble Indie Overnight intern / norteño is homesicking on the motherland: good ole New England.

Speedy Ortiz - Tiger Tank

Out of the distorted, weed-hazed, frost-tinged mecca of Amherst, Ma, Speedy Ortiz rep the blurred, guitar driven sound of their UMass forbearers - Dinosaur Jr., The Pixies - while spicing it up through the lens of brilliance-as-stupidity a la Pavement.

Lightning Bolt - Assassins

Hard to believe Lightning Bolt's Wonderful Rainbow turned ten years old this year. Then again, it's hard to believe that this Providence, RI outfit is strictly drums and bass. Wonderful Rainbow''s the kind of output that makes musicians wonder, even after a decade, just how to create the sounds in "Assassins" with only two instruments.

Krill - Purity of Heart

That  jawa-child is creepin' on the front, but these Jamaica Plain boys laid down a nice little single on their recently released Lucky Leaves.

King Tuff - Freak When I'm Dead

Vermont stoner King Tuff rocks enough of that old-school sound to make the Wahlberg / Aerosmith-loving crowd get down, but with enough of that garage vibe to get the fine folks over at Burger Records to re-release KT's first effort, Was Dead

Galaxie 500 - Flowers

Galaxie 500, "Flowers." To play when smoking butts out on the fire escape to impress that Cambridge girl you fancy so much.
